What you accept

If you tap Agree

Everyday words for the material promises and rights you give up. Each line includes a quote from the document.

You are agreeing to resolve all disputes with Uber through binding individual arbitration instead of going to court.

    This product

“you agree that you are required to resolve any claim and/or lawsuit that you may have against Uber on an individual basis in binding arbitration”
  2. 02

You are agreeing to give up the right to participate in class actions or mass lawsuits.

    This product

“this Arbitration Agreement will preclude you from bringing any class, collective, coordinated, consolidated, mass, and/or representative action against Uber”
  3. 03

You are agreeing that Uber can change these Terms at any time and your continued use means you accept the changes.

    This product

“Uber reserves the right to modify these Terms... at any time... your continued use of the Services after any such changes constitutes your agreement to such changes.”

What it can cost you

Downsides we could quote

Quoted clauses that can affect your privacy, money, or right to go to court — including terms that follow you to other products.

Highest-cost clauses first

High cost

Jury trial or court access waived

You are agreeing to waive your right to a jury trial.

“PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT BY AGREEING TO THESE TERMS YOU ARE WAIVING YOUR RIGHT TO SEEK RELIEF IN A COURT OF LAW AND WAIVING YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE A JURY TRIAL ON YOUR CLAIMS.”

What that means: You lose the ability to have a judge or jury decide your case.

The document explicitly states that accepting the terms waives the constitutional right to a jury trial.

High cost

Forced arbitration or class-action waiver

You are agreeing to bind all dispute resolution to private arbitration.

“By agreeing to these Terms, you agree that you are required to resolve any claim and/or lawsuit that you may have against Uber on an individual basis in binding arbitration as set forth in this Arbitration Agreement”

What that means: You cannot take Uber to court for most issues.

Users must use private arbitration for disputes rather than public courts, which limits transparency and recourse.

High cost

Terms follow you to parks, stores, and other products

You are agreeing to additional agreements for third-party services like delivery and logistics.

“if you choose... to provide transportation... logistics... delivery... and other services (collectively, 'Third-Party Services'), these Terms of Service do not supersede... any agreements you may have with Uber... regarding such Third-Party Services”

What that means: Different contracts apply depending on the service you use, potentially limiting your rights further.

Using Uber for different service types (rides, freight, delivery) binds you to specific agreements for those services that may conflict with these general terms.

High cost

Car or smart-home data always on

You are agreeing to audio and video recording by autonomous vehicles.

“When you use AV Services, audio, video, and other sensor recordings may be generated by the AV’s systems... By using the AV Services, you consent to such recordings.”

What that means: Your conversations and surroundings are recorded by the car.

Autonomous vehicles record audio, video, and sensor data while in operation, regardless of whether you specifically asked for it.

Medium cost

Unilateral changes with little or no notice

You are agreeing to be bound by future changes to the terms via continued use.

“Uber reserves the right to modify these Terms or its policies relating to the Services at any time... your continued use of the Services after any such changes constitutes your agreement to such changes.”

What that means: The rules can change while you are using the app.

Uber can update terms without direct notice and treats your continued usage as acceptance of the new rules.

If these terms already apply to you

Keep this list. Fineprint cannot undo or cancel something you already agreed to at the company.

We cannot see Agree on their site. With Premium, tap “I accepted these terms” if you already agreed to what Uber asks.
