In short

  • This document establishes the binding rules for using X and its network of apps and business tools.
  • It grants X permanent rights to your posts, caps their financial responsibility to you at a small amount, and counts as acceptance for future updates simply by keeping your account active.
  • You also agree to resolve disputes in specific locations rather than joining a group lawsuit, unless regional laws prevent it.

What you accept

If you tap Agree

Everyday words for the material promises and rights you give up. Each line includes a quote from the document.

  1. 01

You are agreeing that simply using the platform after an update means you accept the new rules without needing to click anything extra.

    This product

“By continuing to access or use the Services after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.”
  2. 02

You are agreeing to give X a permanent, paid-free license to share, change, and let partners reuse your posts and media anywhere.

    Other companies

“...you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, reproduce, process, adapt, modify, publish, transmit, display, upload, download, and distribute such Content... in any and all media or distribution methods now known or later developed, for any purpose.”
  3. 03

You are agreeing to accept the service exactly as it is and understand that X’s maximum financial responsibility to you is capped at a small amount.

    This product

“IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF THE X ENTITIES EXCEED THE GREATER OF ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (U.S. $100.00) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS FOR THE SERVICES GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.”
  4. 04

You are agreeing to drop any chance of joining a class action lawsuit and accepting that any legal fight over these rules happens in specific courts.

    This product

“**To the extent permitted by law, you also waive the right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class action, collective action or representative action proceeding against us or our corporate affiliates.**”
  5. 05

You are agreeing that you are at least 13 years old, or acting as an adult authorized to set up an account for a child.

    This product

“In any case, you must be at least 13 years old to use the Services.”
  6. 06

You are agreeing that this single contract covers X’s entire collection of apps, ad tools, developer interfaces, and affiliated services.

    Other products, stores, or brands

“govern your relationship with us and your and other users’ access to and use of, and anything otherwise relating to, our or our corporate affiliates’ services, including our various websites, SMS, APIs, email notifications, applications, buttons, widgets, ads, commerce services, and our other covered services”

What it can cost you

Downsides we could quote

Quoted clauses that can affect your privacy, money, or right to go to court — including terms that follow you to other products.

Highest-cost clauses first

High cost

Broad license to user content

You are agreeing to hand over permanent, unpaid rights to your content so X and its partners can reuse or sell it freely.

What that means: X can repurpose your personal creations for any project without compensation or further permission.

You give X a wide, permanent permission to use your posts, photos, and videos. They can modify them, share them publicly, and allow outside partners to reuse them without asking or paying you.

High cost

Liability shifted onto the user

You are agreeing to rely on the service at your own risk and accept that X only pays out up to a hundred dollars if something goes wrong.

What that means: You carry the financial risk if the platform breaks or causes problems, and your ability to recover large losses is heavily restricted.

X states the service is provided exactly as available today. If the app fails, causes data loss, or leads to damages, their total payout to you is legally limited to a very low dollar amount.

High cost

Jury trial or court access waived

You are agreeing to settle any disputes individually and stepping aside from any group lawsuits against X.

“**To the extent permitted by law, you also waive the right to participate as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class action, collective action or representative action proceeding against us or our corporate affiliates.**”

What that means: You lose the strength of a collective lawsuit and face a distant court location that may discourage filing a claim.

You give up the option to band together with other affected users to sue X. Instead, individual disputes must move forward alone in specific county courts in Texas, which raises travel and legal costs for many.

Medium cost

Unilateral changes with little or no notice

You are agreeing that future updates take effect immediately upon posting and that your ongoing usage serves as your acceptance.

“By continuing to access or use the Services after those revisions become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Terms.”

What that means: Your expected protections or duties can change mid-conversation, and staying on the app counts as your signature on the new version.

X can rewrite these rules whenever they choose. They promise to try to notify you of major shifts, but simply keeping your account active after a change means you automatically accept the updated conditions.

Medium cost

Children’s data

You are agreeing that you meet the minimum age requirement or hold the legal authority to create an account for someone younger.

“In any case, you must be at least 13 years old to use the Services.”

What that means: Younger users cannot independently sign up, while parents or guardians retain control over family accounts.

The terms enforce a strict minimum age of thirteen for independent accounts. Adults can still register and manage accounts on behalf of younger minors who lack full legal capacity.

Medium cost

Terms follow you to parks, stores, and other products

You are agreeing to a single set of rules that stretches across X’s entire suite of professional tools, ad networks, and affiliated apps.

“govern your relationship with us and your and other users’ access to and use of, and anything otherwise relating to, our or our corporate affiliates’ services, including our various websites, SMS, APIs, email notifications, applications, buttons, widgets, ads, commerce services, and our other covered services”

What that means: A single agreement opens you to terms across multiple professional and commercial tools attached to the main platform.

Clicking to accept binds you to X’s broader business ecosystem. Beyond the main social feed, the rules extend to their developer portals, advertising dashboards, and partner integrations.
